In Ferntree Gully, PanelTech Systems delivered a high-performance granny flat / pod home using our Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) system, purpose-built for speed, efficiency, and long-term durability. The project was completed in collaboration with the Hycon Homes team, who managed the on-site installation, for Innovista Group.

This build demonstrates the advantages of prefabricated construction in a suburban setting. With the SIP floor, wall, and roof panels manufactured off-site and delivered ready for installation, the structure came together rapidly and with exceptional accuracy. Panels were craned into place with ease, forming a strong, airtight, and thermally efficient shell in a fraction of the time required by traditional building methods.

By working closely with Hycon Homes throughout the planning and delivery stages, PanelTech Systems ensured a smooth transition from factory to site. The result is a clean, efficient build process with reduced waste, fewer trades required on site, and a high-quality finished structure designed for comfortable, energy-efficient living.

The process

The Ferntree Gully installation was carefully coordinated to ensure efficiency, safety, and precision at every stage. All SIPs were delivered to site pre-labelled and sequenced for installation, allowing the Hycon Homes team to move quickly from set-out and base preparation to standing and bracing the wall panels.

Once the walls were secured, the roof panels were craned into position, completing the building envelope swiftly. Joints were sealed progressively as the structure came together, creating a weather-tight shell early in the build. This streamlined approach allowed follow-on trades to commence almost immediately, accelerating the overall program and bringing the pod home to lock-up in a remarkably short timeframe.

Stage 01 - Site Prep & Subfloor

Plates were accurately set out on a raised stilt structure before installing the SIPs subfloor system, ensuring a precise and level foundation from the very beginning. The floor panels were then craned into place and securely fixed to the structure, creating a strong and stable base for the build.

Stage 02 - Wall Panels Installed

SIP wall panels were stood, joined, and braced into position.

Stage 03 - Roof Panels Craned In

Large-format roof SIPs were lifted into place with precision and secured.

Stage 04 - Lock-Up Achieved

Windows, doors, and cladding followed, delivering a weather-tight, secure structure ready for interior trades.
